The CGL examination is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). The process of the examination is divided into four tiers. Candidates should qualify each stage to appear in the next one. First, two tiers are based on an online method while the next two are based on offline. Candidates are recruited in various responsible posts of the Government offices and departments. Every year more than thousands of vacancies are filled by SSC, where this CGL examination is one of the biggest exams to be conducted for candidates.
To apply for the SSC CGL examination the minimum age is 18 years and the maximum age is 32 years. However, there are some age relaxation criteria for reserved groups of candidates.

This CGL examination is divided into four Tiers, like Tier I, Tier II, Tier III, Tier IV.
This is the preliminary Examination. The examination method is completely online-based. Questions will be of the objective type with multiple choices. Candidates can choose their medium of questions as Hindi or English.

This is the main examination. Students need to qualify Tier I exam to appear for Tier II. This examination method is also online-based. Question type remains the same here and here also candidates can choose their medium of questions. There are four papers in this examination.
In each paper, PWD candidates can get 2 hours 40 minutes and have 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong get as negative marking in Paper ii and 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper I, Paper iii, Paper iv.

This is the descriptive part of the examination. Candidates need to qualify Tier II to appear in this Tier. In this Tier the mode of examination is offline. Candidates are required to write essays, precis, applications, letters, etc. in this examination.
It is the examination of DEST that means Data Entry Skill Test and CPT that means Computer Proficiency Test.
